IN A FLASH: Earth Month Wrap Up
¶¡ÏãÎåÔÂæÃæÃÖÐÎÄ celebrated Earth Month with an exceptionally full schedule of events, not the least of which were the activities on campus surrounding the total solar eclipse!
New Partnership Between ¶¡ÏãÎåÔÂæÃæÃÖÐÎÄ and Bio-Med Science Academy STEM School to Bring Elementary Education Back to University’s Schwartz Center
Beginning fall 2027, Bio-Med Science Academy will relocate its grades K-6 programs to ¶¡ÏãÎåÔÂæÃæÃÖÐÎÄ’s Schwartz Center. The Schwartz Center, which opened in 1956 as the home of the ¶¡ÏãÎåÔÂæÃæÃÖÐÎÄ School, a laboratory school that served generations of student teachers, will return to its original purpose as a school building.
¶¡ÏãÎåÔÂæÃæÃÖÐÎÄ Board of Trustees Announces Partnership With Bio-Med Science Academy
¶¡ÏãÎåÔÂæÃæÃÖÐÎÄ’s Board of Trustees approved a new partnership between the university and Bio-Med Science Academy STEM School that will bring new life to the underutilized Michael Schwartz Center building while providing the public STEM school with a state-of-the-art facility for its elementary grades. The Board’s vote of approval came during its regular quarterly meeting held Dec. 11.

Buzzing With Excitement on Pollinator Day
Launching seed balls, learning about plants and insects, engaging with interactive games and coloring were just some of the events that the ¶¡ÏãÎåÔÂæÃæÃÖÐÎÄ Child Development Center’s preschool and kindergarten classes participated in for Pollinator Day on Sept. 5.
STARS Struck: ¶¡ÏãÎåÔÂæÃæÃÖÐÎÄ Sustainability Improves University Rankings
¶¡ÏãÎåÔÂæÃæÃÖÐÎÄ has earned an AASHE STARS Silver rating for its ongoing commitment to campus sustainability, a step up from the bronze rating on the past submission, thanks to the Office of Sustainability and its numerous initiatives.
IN A FLASH: The Fixers Are IN!
Volunteers with skills in repairing clothing, household items, electronics, furniture, small appliances and more will be available to help people who bring in broken or non-working items at the Fix-It Kent Community Repair Workshop on Sept. 18.
Museum Receives Grant for Historic Building Energy Audit
The ¶¡ÏãÎåÔÂæÃæÃÖÐÎÄ Museum has received an award from the Helen Frankenthaler Foundation to fund a comprehensive energy audit of its historic 1928 building, Rockwell Hall. The audit will evaluate the building’s mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems and provide recommendations for sustainable facility improvements.

¶¡ÏãÎåÔÂæÃæÃÖÐÎÄ Board of Trustees Approves Establishing Aeronautics and Engineering Schools
The ¶¡ÏãÎåÔÂæÃæÃÖÐÎÄ Board of Trustees approved the establishment of two new schools – the School of Aeronautics and the School of Engineering – within the College of Aeronautics and Engineering during the Board’s regular quarterly meeting held June 25, 2025, on the Kent Campus.
